The London Metropolitan Chess Club

The Metropolitan Chess Club (est. 1890) is one of England's oldest chess clubs. It meets at 6:30p.m. on Thursday nights, at the Middlesex Coummunity Centre which is situated in Petticoat Square on the right hand side of Middlesex St, 250 yards from the junction with Bishopsgate. The square is elevated and is reached via the concrete steps in Middlesex St adjacent to the parade of shops. The Community centre is on the opposite side of the square. This map shows the location.

London League

This year The Metropolitan Chess Club are running four teams in the London Chess League.

Middlesex Chess League

This year The Metropolitan Chess Club are running three teams in the Middlesex Chess League, (in division 1 and 2 and one team in the Middlesex "Formula" League (under 125)).

I have captained the Middlesex Second team for the last few years, during which time we've progressed from the third division to the second division (promoted at the end of the 05/06 season, and stayed up in 06/07).

Other Competitions

The club also enters teams in the 4NCL, and the National Club Championship.

Internal Matches

In addition, the club holds internal Winter and Summer round-robin tournaments, a quickplay handicap tournament and a lightning tournament, as well as an ongoing Ladder Tournament.
